The imposing Sainte Cécile cathedral is a masterpiece of the Southern Gothic style.
Its bell tower (256 ft.) dominates the city and the surrounding region like a medieval watchtower. The cathedral is the world's largest brick cathedral. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries it is characterized by a strong contrast between its austere, defensive exterior and its sumptuous interior decoration.
